Ocean Tracking equipped more than 180 sailing boats in the ARMEN RACE with satellite beacons
The ARMEN RACE organized by the Société des Régates de la Trinité sur Mer is a coastal race along the Breton coast.
Accurately geolocating sailboats is a matter of safety and useful for communication.
The tracking beacons are set to a very high transmission frequency close to the coast: position transmission every 2 seconds.
If the boat moves away from GSM range, the positioning automatically switches via satellite to the Iridium network.
The selected beacons : SK50 beacons which allow Iridium geolocation offshore and GPRS/2G/4G/5G near the coast.
Special feature: recording of positions every second when passing waypoints offshore.
Arrivals are made live, only the OCEAN TRACKING beacons associated with its mapping allow the GPRS/Iridium mix.

Installation and testing
- A technical engineer is present at the competition venue to distribute the beacons

The specificities
The SK50 bailises which connect in 2G/4G/Iridium are entirely dedicated to tracking boats for reporting positions on Internet mapping.
The positioning frequencies of the SK50 main beacon are adapted to the departure, arrival and offshore phases thanks to their transmission capacity on the GSM network close to the coast and automatic switch to Iridium upon moving away and loss of the GSM network.

- Departure phase frequency: Every second then every 15 minutes
- Arrival phase frequency: every second
- Frequency offshore: every 15 minutes for race direction
- Recording a position every second when passing specific waypoints
